I will open this preview with the advice given to me by the late great ‘Mr. Ken ‘Woose’ Wootton, who was the editor of Australian Motor Cycle News (AMCN) for many years. When I started out back in 1990 he gave me lots of advice, without being too pushy and I have to admit it has stood me in good stead over the past 35 years. One thing he always said to steer clear of was making predictions of who might win a particular race or event. To use his words – “ You will inevitably end up looking like a “GOOSE” – because so much can happen during a race, tactics change, events happen that could never be predicted, mechanical issues etc etc. Well I guess we will see come the 2nd March!!!
Looking at the entry lists for the three events on the day and I will start with the Production GP. This will be a 24 lap race and I reckon the top four barring incidents should be Lauchy Williams(Turn 1 Motorsports Yamaha R3), Joel Jenzen(Streetwise Yamaha R3), Luke Warner(Moto Mart AU Kawasaki Ninja 400) and Stevie Middlebrook(Trakdayz Yamaha R3). There will be some good racing right through the field between the likes of Jenzen Hutchinson(MINTOX Racing Kawasaki Ninja 400), Will Power(Track Action Yamaha R3), Darren Powell(Pro Ceilings KTM RC390), Robert Wheeler(Waroona Electrical Services Kawasaki Ninja 300), Emily O’Brien(Registered Painters Pty.Ltd. Kawasaki ZX4R) and Tim Wallace(MINTOX Racing Kawasaki Ninja 400) but I feel that the the young guns will prevail at the chequered flag.
In the Sidecar Handicap event the the four F1 outfits of Murray Stronach/Darryl McLeod(Turnapart Engineering Suzuki GSXR1000), Robert & Hamish Taylor(Turret Engineering Suzuki GSXR1000), Morgan & Dion Marshall(City Panel Truck Repairs Kawasaki 1000) and Peter Girling/Evelyne Scholz(Motorcycle Movers Kawasaki 1000) and the F2 outfit of Steven McQueen/Max Perrin(Coppin Road Customs 600) should be strong enough to prevail on the day. Nichola Caddy/David Gardiner(Collie Motorplex Kawasaki ZX600R) who have only just acquired the outfit will be all about getting valuable track time to get themselves comfortable with the new outfit.
The ‘Wanneroo 3 Hour Endurance’ Race will see 20 teams greet the starter for the race. Interestingly only one of the winners from the previous three years is riding again and that is Jack Langley. Previously Langley had been partnered by Josh Cook, the pair took victory in 2023 and were runners up in 2024, but for 2025 he is teamed up with Ross Hudson(Northside Motorcycles Yamaha R1) as Cook recovers from a leg injury. Brothers Reece and Connor Southern(All Aspects Landscaping Kawasaki ZX10R) are teamed up and will be eager to go two places better than their 2022 third place. Keith Harrison and Lachy Hickey were runners up in 2022, with Hickey now retired Harrison has teamed up with veteran Sean McHale(Westmac Suzuki GSXR1000) to try their luck and possibly go one better.
Calvin Moylan(Hydro-Pneumatics Pty.Ltd Yamaha R6) and Ryan McGovern, Martin Monahan(Loftysracepaint Kawasaki ZX-10) and Jason Keenehan, Craig Hutchinson(MINTOX Racing Ducati V2 Panigale) and Andrew Baker, Andrew Biffen(Go Moto Store Yamaha R1) and Ryan Pietsch, Dain Hutton(On Track Motorcycles Yamaha R6) and Will Wasley, Josh King(JK Mechanical Yamaha R6) and Craig Eldridge, Josh Norman(Oxford Project Services BMW S1000RR) and Chris Cull, Ryan O’Callaghan(Yamaha R1) and Asher Brolsma could be right up there if things go south at the front of the field.
The winner can expect to run somewhere between 150 – 160 laps if things go to plan.
My prediction for the 3 Hour – 1st Hudson and Langley.
2nd Southern brothers.
3rd Biffen and Pietsch.
