2024 Round 2 Race Report

Sunday 19th May saw the running of the second round of the AGV HELMETS AUSTRALIA WA State Road Racing Championships at the Collie Motorplex – Long track. The weather was perfect for racing and, with an 18 race card, it promised to be a full on day. Practice went pretty much to plan with only minor incidents and racing got underway as scheduled.

Unfortunately, things didn’t go quite to plan. In the fourth race of the day, in the Cullys Yamaha Supersport race, there was a racing incident that required a rider to be medi-vaced from the track. Due to time restraints caused by the incident the decision was made to run just one race for each class and the remaining 12 races were cancelled. The Promoter agreed that Championship points would be allocated to each Championship class that was conducted on the day. It was further agreed that the Winners of the one race of Club 600 and Club 1000cc would be eligible to remain in Clubman for Round 3.

First race of the day was the Dynapumps Superbike race. Sam Clarke (RS36 Suzuki GSX-R 1000) was in pole position on his rebuilt motorcycle, following his crash in round one. When the lights went out he went straight to the front and was never headed over the 8 laps, Ben Stronach (VRT Signs Yamaha R1) and Bronson Pickett (Aark Suspension Yamaha R1) had a race long duel, with Pickett eventually securing second place with Stronach third and Adam Senior (MarinePro West Yamaha R1) in fourth place. Stronach leads the championship with 83 points, Clarke moves into second spot with 75 points, Senior is third with 73 points and Jack Langley(Coxon Mechanical Services Yamaha R1) is fourth with 68 points.

In the GoMoto Store Production Championship it was Rossi McAdam (Kawasaki Ninja 400) who took the honours after a race long battle with Calvin Moylan (Hydro- Pneumatics Kawasaki Ninja 400) and William Wasley(SKL Mechanical Kawasaki Ninja 400). That was the finishing order with McAdam winning by just 0.309 second. Moylan retains his championship lead with 70 points, McAdam moves into second spot with 63 points and Wasley is third with 56 points.

The VRT Signs Sidecar Championship saw Darren Nash/Cooper Mapstone(Shieldsy Engineering RHR ZX-10) continue on their winning way. Second were Sam Watson/Eamon Hegarty(ETC Paving LCR Suzuki 1000) with father/son Robert and Hamish Taylor(Pro Tow Suzuki GSX-R 1000) in third place. Nash/Mapstone lead the championship with 95 points, ten points clear of second placed Watson/Hegarty with the Taylor’s in third place with 72 points. Tom Quaye and passenger Joel Boborci took home the Formula 2 honours for the day.

In the Cullys Yamaha Championship neither of the top two from round one were entered. Callum O’Brien unfortunately suffered a fall during practice on the Saturday and was not fit to race Sunday. Lachlan Hickey looks to be out for the remainder of the year. But the action was on with William Wasley(JB Racing Yamaha R6) and Jordan White(INVIEW TV Yamaha R6) battling it out at the front for the entire race with Calvin Moylan(Westsliders Kawasaki ZX-6) holding out Josh Cook(CMS Yamaha R6) for third spot. William Wasley leads the championship on 66 points with Adam Senior and Jordan White tied in second place on 64 points, third is Josh Cook with 62 points and one point further back is Calvin Moylan on 61 points.

In the Westwide Air Conditioning Services Clubman 1000 Josh Norman(BMW S1000RR) took the win from Mitchell Carr(Campbell Road Automotive Honda CBR 1000) with Brock Fallon(Westfill All Aspects Landscaping Yamaha R1) in third place. Martin Monohan took up the 4th with Will Power in 5th place.

In the SBK Imports Clubman 600 Martin Calley(On Track Motorcycles Kawasaki ZX-6) took his first win, second was Ryan McGovern(Yamaha R6) with Craig Eldridge(Yamaha R6) third. Angelo Antoni grabbed 4th with season newcomer Raune Bianchi 5th.

FOOTNOTE: We have received news that the rider involved in the Supersport incident has now been discharged from hospital in a full brace but is expected to make a full recovery.

Round 3 of the AGV Helmets Australia WA State Road Racing Championship will be held THIS SUNDAY 2nd June at Raceway in Wanneroo.
