| Belly Pans | If
your bike comes standard with a fairing under the belly or sump of the
engine, then the fairing under the sump needs to be a sealed container
capable of containing liquid. The intention is to contain oil from a blown engine or leak rather than just emptying out on the track. There are exceptions…bikes pre 1972 and bikes that don’t come out with a belly fairing as standard issue. Some original fairings under the sump have drainage holes or don’t actually have a lip at the back edge. On some bikes you can duct tape the joins and holes and that will suffice, other bikes will need to have a separate pan constructed inside the fairing or the fairings edging raised up to form a pan…..check out how other race bikes have solved the problem next time you are at the track. The club usually has secondhand raceglass (fiibreglass replica fairings) advertised from the racers….These generally have the mods already done and will save your original glass!

| Tyres | Tyres
must be in good condition and not worn out. Machine
Examiners have the power to stop you from practicing if they feel your tyres are
sub-standard. Check your tyre pressures----air supply is available at the circuit. |
| Handle Bars and Controls |
Handle bar ends must be blanked off (on some bikes the balance weights do
this). |
| Oil Plugs |
Sump plugs, gearbox drain plugs and filler plugs must be drilled and wired to the frame or motor to prevent it undoing. You can use hose clamps on your oil filter (spinoff type) and attach the lock wire to it and then to the frame. |
| Coolant |
The coolant in the engine, radiator and catch tank can only be water with no additives or coolant. This may be checked by the machine examiner. The filler caps for radiator coolant must be drilled and wired shut, or taped over with gaffa tape or wired shut with a hose clamp. |
| Brake Fluid | Ensure
the brake fluid is new, as the brakes may boil with old fluid and this has
caused brakes to lock on in after a few laps in the past. The filler caps for brake fluid must be taped over with gaffa tape or wired shut with a hose clamp and wire to prevent them opening. |
| Centre Stand | Centre
stands and side stands must be removed. You must be able to stand the bike in the pits or at least lean it against something. Side stands quite often work adequately in the pits with the bolt removed and replaced with a screwdriver. |
| Valve Caps | You should have valve caps front and rear. |
| Drive Chain | Check the joining link, if you have one, is it fitted correctly? Tension the chain In Manufacturers’ specs, and lubricate It. |
| Taping Up | Tape over all glassware, headlights, taillight, indicators etc. Remove mirrors or turn inwards and tape over. Remove number plates or tape over front and edges. |
